GAME OPENING

Welcome to Aion Teleos's first OOC mingle, as well as its first event plotting post! In the future these two things may be posted separately, but given that the event will be posted on Friday, it made the most sense to combine them for the game's opening. The general details of the coming event will be posted below to give you an idea of what your characters will be doing for the next month. Please note that sects will not be confirmed until later in the month, depending on your character's reaction to the intro event.

❖ THINGS TO NOTE

◆ NETWORK: Following this event, the communion network will be active! These are awakened as part of choosing a sect. Pleroma characters won't receive any immediate instructions on how to use these powers, but they are welcome to figure them out on their own. Kenoma will have it explained to them by certain NPCs in the Regent's forces.

◆ TIMELINE: The timeline for the for this first month will be a bit condensed. The event itself will ICly be occurring over the period of a bit over a week, but playtime has been scheduled to last until the end of the month. Timing wise, the events of the TDM will have been considered to happen in the first half of the Horos equivalent of March. The intro event will happen in the second half of March. From there, the timeline should go back to a 1:1 ratio.

THE EMPTY THRONE

The ritual promised in the game's first TDM is at hand. Escorted down to a massive cavern beneath the ruins, characters will made to participate in a disquieting ceremony - one that invokes the Kenoma and forcefully infects them with it. Trapped within the cavern by their captors, they'll be forced to wait out the infection's effects, with only sparse supplies being offered to them and clothing that does nothing to stand up against the cold of these subterranean ruins.

Your character initial attunement will ultimately be defined by their reaction to the Kenoma they've been infected with. There are two main options:

A) They reject its influence, survive its detrimental effects, and their perseverance cultivates the presence of the Pleroma. After a week or so they will be able to expel the Kenoma entirely, attune to the first tier of Pleroma, and have any powers they're missing return.

B) The presence of the Kenoma speaks to them on a spiritual level, their own despair responding to it. Though they may struggle at first, eventually they succumb, surrendering to its influence and being informed of the Regent's plans through it. Characters that accept Kenoma will be allowed out of the cavern, as long as they stay in the area and cooperate with a new NPC that will be present. Their powers will return as soon as they surrender to the Kenoma.

You DO NOT have to commit to the sect indicated on your app if these opening circumstances make you inclined to go another direction. Here are some of the plot hooks that will be present in the event information:

◆ KENOMA SICKNESS: The infection, while being resisted, will cause various detrimental effects. These include persistent dark thoughts, accidental psychic communication with other characters, involuntary transformations in line with Aion changes but based on negative self conception, and general physical illness. Your character should be affected by at least one of these things.

◆ COMPETITIVE SURVIVAL: The soldiers are giving characters a limited amount of supplies and are not attempting to distribute it evenly. Hoarding supplies is an option, and will likely result in others going hungry and/or freezing.

◆ PERSUASION: Characters who accept the Kenoma will essentially swap over to being part of the military force trapping people in the caverns. They may receive orders from an NPC asking them to 'persuade' characters who have not succumbed to the Kenoma yet by whatever means necessary, as long as it isn't killing them or using mind control.

All of this will be fleshed out further in the actual event post, this summary is just to give you an idea of what to plan for. That said, let's introduce ourselves!

FUN FACTS: I'm a freelance artist with a very inconsistent sleep schedule. You might get a reply as normal as 2PM or as cursed as 4AM. It's a surprise! I do a lot of traveling and my main thing is exhibiting at anime conventions. My socials is like 90% food, 5% Korean novels/manhwa and the merch I accumulate, 4% video games, and maybe sometimes I post art.

I FFXIV raid in three groups but I also write tags during raid. It's fine. I'm the healer. What's the worst that can happen?

This is a fun facts section so, uh, I can tuck my thumb behind my knuckle.

CHARACTER PITCH:
Do you like brooding, edgy protagonists with the personality of a rock and multiple lifetimes of trauma? Then this guy is just for you. Yoo Joonghyuk is the protagnist of some really shitty webnovel with over 3000 chapters that the main character committed like ten years of their life to reading. That entire sentence was really sad.

Yoo Joonghyuk is a regressor trying to see the end of the scenarios that brought upon the apocalypse. He basically goes through multiple lifetimes of suffering, so he's kind of a dick. His first response to just about anything is to solve it with violence. He spent three years ~~pining~~ waiting for his companion to come back. Like who pays to keep their weird mental AIM chat active for three years when they don't even know the person will come back???

On the upside, if his personality doesn't turn one off, he's the perfect malewife.

DESIRED CR:
I'm gonna be annoying with the anything and everything. Give it to me even if he doesn't want it. I personally do, so Joonghyuk will just deal with it y'know? For more specific things though:

-Friends...? Or as close as friends can be with a guy who isn't very good with having normal relationships. It's a learning process.

-People who will annoy him. Please pick on him.

-Gimme that slowburn anything. Hundreds upon hundreds of comments just for a hug. The good stuff. I love seeing CR develop, so I'm definitely interested in seeing it for the long haul.

OFFERED CR:
A blunt asshole who isn't afraid to speak his mind. Despite his prickly personality, Joonghyuk is a pretty loyal guy and he does go out of his way to protect others. He's considered an idealist too, believe it or not. He's a good guy who just has a broken mind and has bad defense mechanisms.

He's good if someone needs a character who isn't afraid to say what is on their mind, might want training to get stronger (he's adept in all weapons like a fucking cheater protagonist), or you want to try and convince the man to cook for you with his 5 star Michelin level cooking.

PLOT HOOKS:
Yoo Joonghyuk is pretty good at adapting into shitty situations. He knows how to navigate through an apocalypse and he has a pretty robust skillset. Also, despite wearing all black, being kind of violent and okay with murder, and is edgy/broody; Joonghyuk will end up Pleroma. His whole shtick is desperately clawing to stay alive and to keep going even when things are piled high against him. Also, pure stubbornness because he really hates being a plaything, so he sure is gonna resist like hell.

That being said, his mind is susceptible to influence due to it being pretty brittle.

EVENT PLANS:
My plan is to have him resist the Kenoma, but honestly, plans are flexible. Yoo Joonghyuk has a pretty brittle mind, so it'll be a struggle, but a lot about him swings towards Pleroma pretty strongly despite his appearance.

He'll definitely have persistent dark thoughts. Joonghyuk goes through similar things even in canon, which they called regression depression. Either way, he'll be pretty susceptible to a lot of things because of it and struggle quite a bit, and I'd love to play out the struggles of being persuaded into Kenoma or having people help him keep resisting it since he might need some encouragment.

I'm also definitely interested in having psychic communication with other players and having him go through involuntary transformations. I haven't decided what kinds he would go through, but I just want him to be inconvenienced by them as much as possible.

If you want someone to try to drag him into ~~the darkness~~ accepting Kenoma (even if it doesn't ultimately work...) I would definitely be interested in such a thread if you are c:

I would definitely be interested in threading it out! At the very least I’m very fond of Childe and at worst the two can get into some dumb fist fight because they both seem like the type to just start a fight. Joonghyuk definitely is a fight first, ask questions later.

But it would be interesting to see how the other might try to drag him in.

HELLO first of all I'm very sorry your TDM tag is still hanging out there all alone, I had a busy weekend and haven't been able to get to tags properly. orz Happy to pick it up later tonight if you're still interested, otherwise we can just start fresh when the game opens on Friday!

Anyway I've been told that YJH is exactly My Type because I love stoic assholes with sad backstories. Unfortunately, I also play a stoic asshole and pitting two sblunt toic assholes against each ohter is always a risk (but one I'm willing to take). Either they will hate each other or understand each other and I'm happy to find out.

Look. LOOK. I wrote my application the morning of the day I had to attend a wedding and I had flew in the night before. I totally get it HAHA. We can do either or. Whichever is more convenient for you since I'm more than happy to work with the TDM thread or to just start when game opens.

As someone who loves Eustace, and apparently has started picking up assholes with back stories as A Type. You'll probably like him. He's likable. Somehow. Or I'm a YJH apologists.

I'm really invested to see which one it'll be because I feel like if they do get along, it'll be A Problem for everyone else.

I honestly can't believe how much you were able to get done while traveling, mad props to you. I also can't believe how many people in this game are familiar with Eustace, so much for my plans to sneak in unobtrusive and unknown.

But you're probably right re: YJH! I'm not very far in ORV yet and admittedly Huiwon has already stolen my heart but we'll see how it goes the further I get. In the meantime, since the event's gone up, was there anything in particular you wanted do? I don't have the bandwidth to top level this time around but I'm happy to write a custom starter for us or hop onto your top level if you have plans for one! I'm easy.

I do a lot of traveling, so you start to figure out how to get stuff done even abroad. I will say that I did very much miss the size of my monitors though AHAH. GBF is like that game everyone plays, but no one really admits to it... and mostly everyone who plays it are probably tired and retired old players now HAHA. I'd know him through osmosis because I know at least two friends who hugely simp for him.

YJH's presence is somewhat lacking, I think, up until the arc the webtoon is going into. BUT ALSO HUIWON IS A GOOD CHOICE. She is also a character I've considered picking up, so somehow this tracks. Honestly though, I love everyone in ORV quite a bit. They all live rent free in my head.

I plan on getting a TL up tonight or tomorrow! So, if it's easier for you to tag into something versus putting something up, then it's all good. Idk what you'd like to thread out in particular. YJH has plenty of trauma for the dark thoughts, but I also intend to have him incredibly inconvenienced by physical changes. A nice distortion of taking that lone wolf imagery literally. I just think it's neat to give him a tail and ears and have no control over them.

I will hop onto your top level then whenever it goes up!!! 👀 If for some reason none of the prompts work (though I can't imagine that happening) I can always just wildcard a prompt and slap it in a comment to your top level.

Blunt, loyal asshole who's highly adaptable? Yes hello! Amos will definitely be extremely confused as to why someone who at least seems to be kinda like him is resisting the Kenoma.

I replied to this in my head and I hit reply. In my head.

LOOK. Look. Despite his appearance, this man is weirdly all Pleroma. It's wild. It's crazy. He's like the embodiment of not giving into despair and to keep going. The only thing he gets is trauma out of it though. Go figure.

The other reason is Spite. He wasn't playing friendly with the soldiers through the TDM, so now he has to spite resist because he's also extremely petty.

But I'm really into blunt, loyal assholes meeting because it sounds like a great (read: bad) idea and I love how assholes talk to each other.

I absolutely love that character type though, just, relentlessly refusing to give up no matter what. Especially when spite is involved, but even without that. God it'd probably make my guy question some things... Not enough to change sides but at least enough to make him Consider some things,

YJH is such a good character for that haha! He's got that inspiring thing where despite suffering so much loss, he keeps going, and you don't know how a man can humanly keep going. Hands everyone my 5 page dissertation about one stupid protagonist.

Making Amos think a bit is good! It sounds like they'll be very interesting to bounce off with their own ideals, morals, and philosophies while being similar! Especially if they end up on opposite sides.

I just want to see these two grouches chat and maybe fist fight a bit.
