GAME OPENING
Welcome to Aion Teleos's first OOC mingle, as well as its first event plotting post! In the future these two things may be posted separately, but given that the event will be posted on Friday, it made the most sense to combine them for the game's opening. The general details of the coming event will be posted below to give you an idea of what your characters will be doing for the next month. Please note that sects will not be confirmed until later in the month, depending on your character's reaction to the intro event.

◆ NETWORK: Following this event, the communion network will be active! These are awakened as part of choosing a sect. Pleroma characters won't receive any immediate instructions on how to use these powers, but they are welcome to figure them out on their own. Kenoma will have it explained to them by certain NPCs in the Regent's forces.
◆ TIMELINE: The timeline for the for this first month will be a bit condensed. The event itself will ICly be occurring over the period of a bit over a week, but playtime has been scheduled to last until the end of the month. Timing wise, the events of the TDM will have been considered to happen in the first half of the Horos equivalent of March. The intro event will happen in the second half of March. From there, the timeline should go back to a 1:1 ratio.

THE EMPTY THRONE
The ritual promised in the game's first TDM is at hand. Escorted down to a massive cavern beneath the ruins, characters will made to participate in a disquieting ceremony - one that invokes the Kenoma and forcefully infects them with it. Trapped within the cavern by their captors, they'll be forced to wait out the infection's effects, with only sparse supplies being offered to them and clothing that does nothing to stand up against the cold of these subterranean ruins.
Your character initial attunement will ultimately be defined by their reaction to the Kenoma they've been infected with. There are two main options:

A) They reject its influence, survive its detrimental effects, and their perseverance cultivates the presence of the Pleroma. After a week or so they will be able to expel the Kenoma entirely, attune to the first tier of Pleroma, and have any powers they're missing return.
B) The presence of the Kenoma speaks to them on a spiritual level, their own despair responding to it. Though they may struggle at first, eventually they succumb, surrendering to its influence and being informed of the Regent's plans through it. Characters that accept Kenoma will be allowed out of the cavern, as long as they stay in the area and cooperate with a new NPC that will be present. Their powers will return as soon as they surrender to the Kenoma.

These include persistent dark thoughts, accidental psychic communication with other characters, involuntary transformations in line with Aion changes but based on negative self conception, and general physical illness. Your character should be affected by at least one of these things.
◆ COMPETITIVE SURVIVAL: The soldiers are giving characters a limited amount of supplies and are not attempting to distribute it evenly. Hoarding supplies is an option, and will likely result in others going hungry and/or freezing.
◆ PERSUASION: Characters who accept the Kenoma will essentially swap over to being part of the military force trapping people in the caverns. They may receive orders from an NPC asking them to 'persuade' characters who have not succumbed to the Kenoma yet by whatever means necessary, as long as it isn't killing them or using mind control.
All of this will be fleshed out further in the actual event post, this summary is just to give you an idea of what to plan for. INTENDED SECT: Kenoma, because he's never made a good decision in his life and shit, he's not about to start now.
CHARACTER PITCH: A Catholic priest that experienced a miracle on the Road to Damascus which permanently altered the course of his life. Since then, he's been ministering to a small island community with apparent powers to heal the sick and raise the dead. He also (ALLEGEDLY) doesn't die when he's killed himself, either.
He's going to be irritable about that not carrying over here, but that's. that's all right.DESIRED CR: I'm always really bad at sorting this kind of thing out; honestly, I'm on the side of anything and everything goes. I can always be reached for any plotting anyone would want to do, and I'm receptive to positive and negative CR both. If we're at, like, a constant impasse we might want to try something else, but generally speaking I like conflict and I like debates and I don't tend to shy away from my characters being blatant fuckups when, like, look at them. So if they'd get along, great! If not, then also great! We're good either way.
OFFERED CR: Do you want someone to aggressively and genuinely give a damn about your character? Do you want a reasonable authority figure that's only ALLEGEDLY completely off the fucking rails? Do you want someone to vent all of your frustration with the Catholic Church on? (I mean, me too?) Do you want.........idk someone to disappoint you horribly because he's probably going to manage that one too, let's be honest. I dunno, man, he legitimately gives a damn about everyone and that's going to make this whole thing hard on everyone I'm sure.
PLOT HOOKS: So Paul will assist you regardless of side, though that may change the more Kenoma takes hold; he will not use lethal force and he is generally more of a noncombatant overall. However, he will debate merits with you, and he'll be trying to earn favor with the Regent by way of converting others without forcing them into anything - willing soldiers in the army of the authority are often far more effective, after all.
EVENT PLANS: I wish I could say he's going to make the right decision like most of his other fellow Martyrs seemed to be indicating, but unfortunately not. Again, he's here to try to persuade people into just accepting Kenoma, and he's also going to be willingly giving over supplies because what about this is giving you any indication that he makes sound decisions. I'm here for any accidental psychic communication as well, because that sounds like it has potential to be interesting; feel free to grab me for anything you might happen to want otherwise!

Also, I'd love to work towards proper CR with him, if he'd be willing to tolerate some teenage shittiness! Gen's already a touch curious about him, but I think he'd be extra tickled if he ever finds out Paul's a priest who ended up with Kenoma and needle at him about it, not necessarily even to convert him but just trying to figure him out a bit.

And yes, absolutely - I am here for anything and everything, he's here to talk theology and pretty much anything else, and he's from a Mike Flanagan series so Never Shuts Up is sort of accidentally his thing. It's great to see you again, I'll be looking forward to any potential CR!

dextera is from a cult that is 1% christian 99% heretical. their leader is called the archangel, dextera is one of the “false angels,” he kissed god… he actually is pretty well-versed in a lot of religion, even if it’s also distorted by amnesia and what he was raised with, but basically i just think they could have fun conversations.

i absolutely adored midnight mass (even if it did give me yet another huge bout of existential dread, thank u mike flanagan) and i was so happy to see father paul here... i couldn't quite scrape out the time to tag you on the tdm but i would love the opportunity in the future
so we got a catholic priest and a demon... what's better than this. makoto is actually a former human teenager that was transformed into a demon and since has become... honestly pretty irredeemable and horrible, but man, i just feel like someone genuinely reaching out to him and doing so persistently could be really interesting bc it is just not something that happens in his canon LOL demons simply do not care that much (or it runs counter to their plans for him...)
makoto is kenoma as they come, so they will be allies in that, but i definitely feel like makoto himself would react... with strong negativity... to a man of the cloth. he has a lot of hang-ups about God from when he was human, so...! being on the same side will only go so far there haha

This guy is a huge magical nerd who is likewise going Kenoma, but what jumps out to me is that Matt is also religious, albeit in a ... heterodox way. (His religion is more like DIY Aphrodite/Kali worship.) I'd be super interested to see how they interact if you're down.
