GAME OPENING
Welcome to Aion Teleos's first OOC mingle, as well as its first event plotting post! In the future these two things may be posted separately, but given that the event will be posted on Friday, it made the most sense to combine them for the game's opening. The general details of the coming event will be posted below to give you an idea of what your characters will be doing for the next month. Please note that sects will not be confirmed until later in the month, depending on your character's reaction to the intro event.
❖ THINGS TO NOTE
❖ THINGS TO NOTE
◆ NETWORK: Following this event, the communion network will be active! These are awakened as part of choosing a sect. Pleroma characters won't receive any immediate instructions on how to use these powers, but they are welcome to figure them out on their own. Kenoma will have it explained to them by certain NPCs in the Regent's forces.
◆ TIMELINE: The timeline for the for this first month will be a bit condensed. The event itself will ICly be occurring over the period of a bit over a week, but playtime has been scheduled to last until the end of the month. Timing wise, the events of the TDM will have been considered to happen in the first half of the Horos equivalent of March. The intro event will happen in the second half of March. From there, the timeline should go back to a 1:1 ratio.

THE EMPTY THRONE
The ritual promised in the game's first TDM is at hand. Escorted down to a massive cavern beneath the ruins, characters will made to participate in a disquieting ceremony - one that invokes the Kenoma and forcefully infects them with it. Trapped within the cavern by their captors, they'll be forced to wait out the infection's effects, with only sparse supplies being offered to them and clothing that does nothing to stand up against the cold of these subterranean ruins.
Your character initial attunement will ultimately be defined by their reaction to the Kenoma they've been infected with. There are two main options:
You DO NOT have to commit to the sect indicated on your app if these opening circumstances make you inclined to go another direction. Here are some of the plot hooks that will be present in the event information:
Your character initial attunement will ultimately be defined by their reaction to the Kenoma they've been infected with. There are two main options:
A) They reject its influence, survive its detrimental effects, and their perseverance cultivates the presence of the Pleroma. After a week or so they will be able to expel the Kenoma entirely, attune to the first tier of Pleroma, and have any powers they're missing return.
B) The presence of the Kenoma speaks to them on a spiritual level, their own despair responding to it. Though they may struggle at first, eventually they succumb, surrendering to its influence and being informed of the Regent's plans through it. Characters that accept Kenoma will be allowed out of the cavern, as long as they stay in the area and cooperate with a new NPC that will be present. Their powers will return as soon as they surrender to the Kenoma.

◆ KENOMA SICKNESS: The infection, while being resisted, will cause various detrimental effects. These include persistent dark thoughts, accidental psychic communication with other characters, involuntary transformations in line with Aion changes but based on negative self conception, and general physical illness. Your character should be affected by at least one of these things.
◆ COMPETITIVE SURVIVAL: The soldiers are giving characters a limited amount of supplies and are not attempting to distribute it evenly. Hoarding supplies is an option, and will likely result in others going hungry and/or freezing.
◆ PERSUASION: Characters who accept the Kenoma will essentially swap over to being part of the military force trapping people in the caverns. They may receive orders from an NPC asking them to 'persuade' characters who have not succumbed to the Kenoma yet by whatever means necessary, as long as it isn't killing them or using mind control.
All of this will be fleshed out further in the actual event post, this summary is just to give you an idea of what to plan for. That said, let's introduce ourselves!◆ COMPETITIVE SURVIVAL: The soldiers are giving characters a limited amount of supplies and are not attempting to distribute it evenly. FUN FACTS: I'm from western Canada; I work in the journalism industry so you might catch me at weird hours a lot. I don't consume a lot of fandoms so I'm probably going to be canonblind to... just about everything... but that's the fun of panfandom cross-canon stuff!! I like sportz and I don't care who knows (although, rip baseball) and I can't think of anything else.
Feel free to add me on discord/plurk for cr and plotting purposes!
NAME: Amos Burton
CANON: The Expanse
LEGACY: Lover
INTENDED SECT: Kenoma
CHARACTER PITCH: copies from my app...
DESIRED CR: Amos has a very simplistic way of looking at people: there are bad ones, ones you follow, and ones you need to protect. I am down for all three, big time. Since I intend to have him give in to the Kenoma the "ones you follow" group might end up being enemies, while the "ones you protect" group is gonna get rrrreal grey area there. Amos isn't a villain in his canon at all but he always had the potential to be one — hello, biggest appeal of this game for me — so any "bad ones" I would love to get in with, too.
I will also say that he's aromantic so romance is an automatic no-go, but I'm down for pretty much anything else.
OFFERED CR: Do you want a loyal bitch? Because I've got a loyal bitch to offer. While I like to take more of a slow burn approach to things, Amos actively seeks people to attach himself to and will generally follow their leads. The Regent will likely end up being his #1 in that department, but he can do that with other PCs, too — although if it comes to a head with the Regent's goals he'll probably defer there (and on that note, I love conflict, so would love to play this out, too).
PLOT HOOKS: Corruption, baybee. It's my number one and canon never explored this with him, although the potential was always there.
For the most part, you're going to find an empty, albeit highly capable person. He's totally dead inside but don't worry, he's almost always been like that. Amos doesn't think he has emotions (he does — he's just very dead inside) so he'll approach things logically (science background! He's a spaceship mechanic. Doesn't understand people at all but anything physical, rather than emotional? He gets that). He's not a malicious person and it's very rarely personal with him (getting to the point where it is personal would be great).
I'm also down to keep any TDM threads as canon! Some might have to be reworked with a different Legacy/the general nature of a TDM, but in those cases I like to keep the general ~vibe of blossoming CR rather than go right back to square one.
EVENT PLANS: He's gonna give in to the Kenoma pretty easily; it just makes sense to him and after the arrival scenario he's really not in the mood for fighting, anyway (it wouldn't even occur to him to fight this).
I'm all about accidental psychic communication, he'll hate that. Probably go with physical illness as well.
Amos is likely to try to hoard supplies, and will only share if he likes you. Although since he's probably not gonna be well in general it's not like he'll really be able to fight anyone off for them.
And he can absolutely be a part of trying to persuade other characters to join the Kenoma! It just makes sense, why aren't you doing it, you should probably come aboard.

He slots very easily into a big brother type of role if you're into that!

I can see them going a long-term complicated enemies route too (especially since Amos isn't malicious/will be into Estinien's attempts to be empathetic... sorry he can't reciprocate, he totally would if he could).

Amos will feel a little bad about Abel being sad! That means he should join him!! But real, Amos is the type to still be like, oh yeah that guy's my friend. Even as they're on opposite sides. Nope. Abel is a good person and Amos likes him. I can't wait to see how their relationship shakes out, it will be so wonderfully messy~

i'm really glad they can be bro's even if they're going to be on opposite sects... i have a feeling there are a lot of interesting conversations in their future!! and maybe fights in the sense that neither one of them will want to stand against each other and might end up helping one another against their own people.......... i love that??? imagine
so much potential and i'm so glad for all of it 😌

There is so much potential and I am so excited for it!! Definitely a lot of interesting conversations ahead,, and, don't get Amos wrong, he'll want to help Abel but he'll also totally kill him if his sect demands it and he's far enough along. But then if Abel gets revived Amos will be happy to see him! very mixed messaging but it's nothing personal, he's just Like That

oh my god Amos nO?? god this is a trainwreck
a very exciting trainwreck and i can't wait for it!! let's make sure we get something going for the event, okay!!

I am not sorry at all, I am so excitedlisten it's FINE usually when he kills people there's no chance for a redo because people tend to stay dead. the opportunities for pleasant surprises here!!
absoLUTELY let's do something for the event, for sure! It's where they're gonna start going down different paths, after all~ A momentous occasion!

...well if it's any consolation Abel's used to getting """killed""" and coming back bc of the whole immortality gig, so consider this the friendship that just keeps giving.......?? god this is horrible in the best way LMAO,
stares pointedly at my clock, willing it to be evening for the event to go up. yes,

Please, new Kenoma buddies who totally think they're doing the right thing. I feel like Matt's earnestness might balance well with Amos' practicality (while they both happen to be on the same side)? idk it's a very very intriguing dynamic to me. Let's make very terrible decisions together.
