( there are many thoughts that makoto has on the Regent and what they are, the nature of the being that they all serve, but for now he keeps them to himself. it's not out of any inbound desire to keep that information hidden, but more that they are all theories based purely on speculation and his own experiences. he has no way of knowing for sure what he saw and experienced in the void was the truth of the matter — with as powerful as the Regent was, perhaps he was just shown what they wanted him to see. he might be willing to part with that information later and in a different context, couching it more clearly with the warning that it's merely his opinion, but for now... he hopes what he says now is at least enough to serve as an appetizer for sebastian: to provide some satisfaction, but also awaken one's appetite for more information.

it's makoto's turn to pivot towards his companion with a look of somewhat wide-eyed surprise as the other demon continues. before coming here, he'd never heard of the concepts. he does pick up on the difference in pronunciation, and as he lapses into rapt silence, it's clear that this is something he hasn't heard as of yet as he continues to listen. )

Fascinating... ( he pauses a moment before continuing, ) I'll admit, I thought I'd read quite a bit of theology and philosophy when I was still human, but I'd never heard of anything like that. ( he had delved into all of the major religions and schools of thought, if not in broad strokes, trying to find some sort of answer for a person like him. he hadn't liked what he'd found, so he'd largely abandoned the practice, pivoting instead to try to sate his desires with more morbid books (something else that hadn't worked).

he hums, thoughtful. )
Their squalling would seem so inconsequential in the grand scheme of this, with so many individual lives to save — and not all of them deserving of it.

I have thought the same about their title, but it doesn't seem to me as though there has ever been a figure in Horos' history that they are tending the throne on behalf of. Or, at least, not that has been recorded in its history or the minds of its people.
