It's not as if he would not do something similar, were the necessity to arise. In any case, he gently positions himself to not harm the crabs, and to prevent Varshahn from getting a terrible crick in his neck from having to stare upwards for a length of time.]
If they are true crystal, and not just an interesting affectation, I might see why. My father was called the Earth-Warder, before he fell to madness. I suppose there might be some sort of call back to that. But I do not know for certain.
