[In the brief space of the silence between them, she reaches one careful hand out to touch the large crystal formation protecting her modesty, staring at the shimmering blue of it as if she could obtain all the answers she sought should she only be able to determine exactly what it is. Unfortunately that proves to be an endeavor as useless as searching for meaning in the jewels set into a beautiful necklace. Pretty to look at, but a cold comfort when faced with real hardship.

His sigh draws her attention back, gaze coming to rest on the same large crystal that had held his attention. It is unsettling to consider the fate of others, trapped within crystal as they had been. How long have they all been there? Will they be able to find their way free, as the two of them have?

Though the thought of describing it as hatching draws a short and weary huff of amusement from Dorothea.]

Well, I don’t think I’ll ever have to wonder how a newborn chick feels. [She is certainly feeling as wobbly as those dear little things, with that weakness pressing heavily into her.] I managed to make it out, so I suppose I can’t complain. I wouldn’t say it was the most dignifying thing I’ve ever done, though.
