What little Wrathion knew of Varian Wrynn indicated that, if rough about the edges, Varian had been a good man. A good father to Anduin, and certainly those assumptions had proven true with the way the young king acted.
Normally. But tensions had been high the day Wrathion had arrived in Stormwind. Even if the specter of an Old One hadn't hung over the city, the loss of a father was not something to be taken lightly. Anduin had loved Varian. It's not as if Wrathion could mourn something he'd never had.
