[ gabranth opens his eyes once he hears a response, though he pauses, humming thoughtfully, before he responds in kind. ]

Seems equally likely as not. [ despite the grim acknowledgment, he keeps his voice low, his tone casual. ] Consider that we’ve been fed and clothed but the barest minimum to survive thus far, and it seems apparent that our captors have no deep investment in our continued survival.

[ another pause follows, and his brows furrow as he continues: ]

But consider also the sheer numbers of our population. [ numbers enough to provide meaningful resistance against their captors, he should think, but without any way to coordinate such resistance... well. that’s something he can dwell upon later. ] Should this ritual they’re preparing call for our sacrifice, then I would imagine they mean to spill the blood of each and every one of us... And yet, while I must profess no familiarity with such blood magicks, the practicality of such an operation eludes me.

[ then again, practitioners of such arts rarely seem to concern themselves with practicality. still, he can’t help but think that, if they’re truly meant to be sacrificed en masse, there must be a more efficient way of going about it. ]
