How, did you say sorcery?

[ It was enough to cause Aerich to focus on what he was saying. He was speaking what had first come to mind, but it was not the tongue of the Empire, nor any other language that he had learned. And yet, it was what he was now thinking in, enough that the realization momentarily robbed him of words in any language. ]

That is to say, what does the word sorcery mean to you? I perceive it as having the same meaning as 'sorcery', which is distinct from 'witchcraft'

[ Sorcery and witchcraft are being deliberately said in the language of the Empire. For all he knew, neither word would be intelligible (and they weren't), but he hoped the context would make it clear as to what he was asking -- these are two applications of certain psychic principles and the channeling of power, but only one is counted as 'sorcery'.

[Of course, his own education covered only basic sorcerous theory and a few minor spells, and he had very little knowledge of what witchcraft actually was beyond 'foreign, and only situationally more useful than proper sorcery' (and the last was a new revelation).]
