[He gives it serious thought before answering, which may come across as evidence that he's not simply blustering. He does truly believe that he could best the average soldier, even without armor or his powers. More than one, even, with a decent enough weapon. At full strength he could take on entire hordes of beasts far more savage than regular men, after all.

He's trained his entire life for this sort of thing, and for wilderness survival as well. It's what he'd been planning to do if he managed to escape any of the other times he's attempted it - find a weapon, hunt, and then follow the trail of their captors. His main concern here is that, were he alone to slip away, he wouldn't be able to come back fast enough to save the others from whatever is about to happen.

He would feel at ill-ease leaving anyone behind, though he's pragmatic enough to recognize a lost cause when he sees one.]

A sturdy enough length of wood would do, sharpened to a point. Not uncommon in woods like these, I'd expect.

[Far from ideal, and not enough to take on more than a subsection of their captors, but enough to make a tactical strike or two. His lack of armor and reduced agility is a concern, but he trusts in his skills.]

As for the fools... they're clearly on orders. If you could determine who they are working for, and how dedicated they are to the cause... it'd be a place to start, at least.

[He huffs softly.]

Though in my experience, they're not very talkative.
