[ well. he might swallow, but he doesn't break that incredibly judgmental silence first, and that still feels like a small win. no, of course he isn't fine. but he isn't feeling anything that can't be set aside right now, which must be about the same thing.

or at least, it seems that way until amos goes on, and rand almost chokes. ]


The - the what shrine?

[ it's supposed to say something about you. there's a moment where he's taken aback. then he shakes his head, makes a bitter, mirthless sound before he can help himself. amos has a point — there is no reason, actually, to staying in some cave without a stitch of clothing — but

he needs a moment.

no matter how fast or how far you run, you cannot escape your fate. it's like he's back in the ways, the black wind surrounding him and whispering everything he never wanted to hear, to believe. to think that he can lose everything and find out that even this world may want him to die.

it is not, perhaps, an entirely rational thought. he is not, perhaps, doing as good a job of seeming fine as he might've hoped. ]
